VOLUNTEER

GABS2016_Akl_Ses1_01.jpg

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our event.

Every year, a small army of passionate beer and events fans donate their time to help keep GABS running smoothly, and we greatly appreciate their contribution to the fabric of the event.

If you’re interested, we’d love you to volunteer for GABS 2017. Not only do you get to meet and work with like-minded beer fans, there are some great perks too.

What does volunteering involve?

We’re looking for people to help serve beer and cider, support the brewery stands, work on the doors, help out at craft beer and cider seminars, oversee games, set up the venue, and support GABS staff. If you have a current Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate this will be a bonus.

What’s in it for you?

As well as working at a great festival with other craft beer and cider fans, volunteers get free entry to another GABS session, a Coopers Festival Glass and volunteer t-shirt, $30 of GABS Currency, and an invitation to the after-GABS drinks.

Interested?

What do the roles entail?

There is a range of volunteer roles and each is integral to the success of GABS.

Roles include:

Door and floor support.
Greeting festival attendees and ensuring they are provided with a glass and program on arrival.

Bar service.
Serving beer and cider at the various GABS bars.

Brewery stand support.
Helping to ensure all the bars and stands have what they need.

Beer, cider and food seminar support.
Assisting the facilitators and providing beer and cider tasters to attendees.

Stock delivery support.
Assisting with receiving stock deliveries and positioning this in containers for easy access during sessions.

Venue set-up.
Unpacking tables and benches and setting everything up in preparation for the festival.

General support.
A varied role assisting wherever support is most needed.

More information about each function is available on the volunteer registration site and a volunteer handbook with further detail and instructions will be provided 1-2 weeks prior to the event.

Can I choose my role?

As there are so many roles to fill, with some requiring Responsible Service of Alcohol certificates, volunteers will not be able to select their own role. GABS will allocate you a role during your preferred shift and send confirmation 1-2 weeks before the event.

How will I know when my shift is confirmed?

You will receive an email confirming your shifts 1-2 weeks ahead of GABS.

Once you’ve signed up as a volunteer and for your shifts you can also check on your schedule at any time by visiting your profile page at www.MyVolunteerPage.com.

Do I need any qualifications or special skills?

If you are reading this, you already hold the most important qualification of all – an interest in volunteering!

We’re looking for energetic and enthusiastic people who work well as part of a team and can follow simple directions. If you have a current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate, hospitality or customer service experience that’ll be a bonus given that GABS is a beer, cider and food festival. Please be sure to let notify us of this during the registration process. However, there are plenty of roles where specific skills and qualifications are not required, and these are just as vital to the success of the festival.

Do I get any special perks for volunteering?

Yes! As well as working at a great festival with other craft beer and cider fans, you’ll also get the following:

Free entry to another GABS session

$30 worth of GABS Currency which can be used to purchase food, or beer and cider during your free session

An exclusive GABS volunteer t-shirt

A Coopers Festival Glass

An invite to the post-GABS volunteer wrap party

Can I drink beer or cider during my volunteer shift?

Nope, sorry. Ensuring our workforce is sober and able to represent GABS professionally is consistent with our goal to promote responsible drinking and the appreciation of craft beer and cider. It is also consistent with our aim of providing a fun and safe festival environment for everyone, volunteers and attendees alike.

You will, however, be given free entry to a GABS session in exchange for volunteering and you’ll get to go to the post-GABS volunteer wrap party. This will be your time to enjoy all the tasty brews on offer.

What do I need to wear while volunteering?

All volunteers receive an exclusive GABS volunteer t-shirt to wear during their volunteer shift.  And for the bottom half, jeans or other pants are fine. For footwear you’ll need to be wearing flat, comfortable closed-toe shoes. And maybe bring a jacket or jumper in case it gets cold.

What happens if I’ve already bought a ticket to GABS but want to volunteer?

No problem. Let us know by emailing contact@gabs.beer and we will arrange a refund for the ticket you purchased.

If my friends register, can we ensure we’re working together?

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated volunteer roles with friends or relatives if you volunteer together. However, you can arrange to attend the same free session, and enjoy the festival together.

Can I check which shifts I’ve signed up for if I forget?

Yes! Once you’ve signed up as a volunteer and for your shifts you can check your schedule at any time by visiting your profile page at www.MyVolunteerPage.com.
